Truth in Engineering: Audi AG introduces jCatalog’s Product Information Manager

By implementing a new Product Information Management (PIM) system, Audi AG has opted for the latest technology in its accessories segment. jCatalog’s PIM solution delivers an workflow engine integrated with a product master data solution which now serves as Audi’s central worldwide product data hub. While supporting internal processes, it also provides retailers and final customers with constantly updated information.

Dortmund/Ingolstadt, September 2011 - In addition to synchronizing content with the SAP system to make sure the ERP system, too, is always provided with up-to-date information, jCatalog's software tool PIM now administers Audi's complete range of accessories.

The fact that the new PIM system came with a very powerful workflow engine certainly tipped the scales in favor of jCatalog. But the Dortmund-based company's references in the automotive sector were also a decisive factor. jCatalog satisfactorily proved compliance of its PIM system with the special requirements of an effective Product Information Management in this sector. jCatalog's PIM solution enables both extensive product data management and multiple complex product relationships that map the compatibility of parts with different vehicle models.

Audi now uses a sophisticated rights management to unambiguously administer all user authorizations. About 20 data stewards adhering to specific rules on role assignment are involved in data governance and product data management in the PIM solution. A great many more employees from the purchasing, sales and customer service departments access the PIM system regularly, while several thousand staff members work with the data provided by PIM on a daily basis.

In addition to that, the comprehensive original Audi accessories brochure is made available to all users via the Internet. Potential buyers may use the configurator to create their customized vehicle - also on basis of the information for all accessories provided by the PIM system.

Next on Audi's list is the automated generation of price lists for original Audi parts using the PIM system, followed by expanded usage in sales and marketing, and utilization of jCatalog’s best-in-class search engine.

jCatalog's PIM solution is used to control the product data for Audi parts and accessories.
